Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, it is my great pleasure to invite you to the Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting (JITMM), Southeast Asia’s largest Tropical Medicine conference.

Each year, the Faculty of Tropical Medicine and its co-organizers host this event, giving researchers, policy-makers, doctors, scientists, public-health professionals, and students the opportunity to meet and learn from one another, for the improved health of people living in, and traveling through, the Tropics.

The Meeting theme this year is Tropical Medicine 4.0 Effective Collaboration for an Impact on Global Health. The ‘4.0’ refers to the term used by the Thai government to talk about its new economic model, which promotes a knowledge-based economy based on creative and innovative thinking, inclusion across all society, and sustainable growth and development. We chose this theme to highlight the need for researchers and practitioners to think and act innovatively to solve Global Health problems. Many of the sessions this year will focus on the benefits of collaboration and inclusion and the importance of turning research into sustainable solutions. Through this 4.0 lens we will cover topics, breakthroughs and updates that are relevant across the tropical world.

The Meeting program will cover a large range of tropical diseases, especially those endemic to Asia. These include malaria; dengue; helminthic infections; bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic diseases; and the fields of disease epidemiology, drug development, education, biology, and many more.

This year we would like strongly to encourage Tropical Medicine professionals from the ASEAN Community to join the meeting. Your participation will add valued diversity and greater insight from endemic areas. To help facilitate your participation, the fees for those from the ASEAN Community will be the same as for residents of Thailand, a discount of nearly 50%.

I invite you to join us and take part in three days of interesting and rewarding sessions and interactions. The meeting will be held in central Bangkok, so there is also plenty to see and do in your free time. Our website, www.jitmm.com, has all the details you need to book your place, submit your abstract and find out more about the event. The website also has details of our pre-meeting course, including how to enroll.

We greatly look forward to seeing you all at JITMM2017 in Bangkok, 6 – 8 December 2017!

Yours sincerely,
